Formerly a 75sq/m clothing retail store, the Yarraville space required a thoughtfully planned layout to ensure the functionality of the commercial kitchen could cater for the business without dominating the feel of the space. This was achieved by extending materials from the cafe through to the back wall of the kitchen. These include feature handmade tiles which clad the counter and kitchen walls, as well as the blond Tasmanian Oak timbers which run throughout.
The existing brick walls were painted white to contrast with the dark floors and ceiling, which enables the feature blue of the pendant lights and tiles to pop. This colour palette is mirrored in the bright colours of Matt’s food, which, along with bursts of green planting, create a vibrant feel in a cosy space.
